Agenda

1)      Review of flip chart summary

-         Our data collection efforts seem to be going in the right direction.

-         As we move along with the surveys we will compare those results to the interview results.

-         Claudia to clean up formatting and add the data from the result presentation slide and add to the AB page for their information.

2)      Data Analysis

-         Need to have a framework to use during the reviewing of the data from the interviews. We want to think back to the computational principles.

o  Fitness document:  Identifies ten major conceptual themes. Link is on the wiki.

o  CS internal document: Discussion in the curriculum committee. Big ideas that the CS faculty think might be applicable in Eng disciplines. Building algorithms and problem solving are a related.

-         These are two framings we can use as a starting point.

-         Where is the connection to the curriculum?

-          Infusing computation paper offers an example of how can we approach this; we can think what would be a combination of foundation courses and what tools and how do we integrate these through the disciplinary curriculum.

-         The curricular framework needs to align with what we are hearing from the employers.

-         Find places where these fit in the existing curriculum.

-         Make explicit connections from the computer course (tools) to solve problems in the different disciplines.

-         To get more buy-in from faculty we could start with specific examples from ChE and CE. This could also be the foundation for the T-grant.

-         Need to start informing people about computation in the curriculum and our project. Where? EGR website?

-         Dissemination strategy is important to build awareness. Helps with buy-in and implementation.

-         What are the immediate steps and the lookout in 6 months, to communicate internally and externally.

-         Look at what other people have for example at the NSF meeting.

3)      Interview faculty analyses

-         After break reviews should be finished.

-         Use the same review protocol considering also what we have discussed about the framework.

-         We want to think how we are going to integrate these ideas into the curriculum. For next year first meeting hold January Tuesday 13 and Thursday 15, 2009
